College

Nilai University College.
Introduction:

A Good Allied Health Education
With the ever-improving standard of living, it is no surprise that more people are placing a greater emphasis on health. Hence the explosion of healthcare and wellness centers; innvariably this leads to greater demand of skilled and qualified professionals such as Nurses and Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) personnel.
Allied health practitioners are health professionals who provide ancillary medical services in various health care settigs to support physicians in the overall care of the patient.
Most Allied Health professions require licensure or credentialing following completion of an accredited program. It is therefore important that you choose an institution that provides you a solid education background whilst equipping you with the skills to excel in this line of work.

Why Study Allied Health Sciences at Nilai UC?
A pioneer in Allied Health Education
Nilai UC was one of the first institutions to start Allied Health education when we launch the Diploma in Nursing almost 6 years ago. Since then, the School of Allied Health Science has grown to be one of Nilai UC's larger academic schools.

Programme Recognition
Both the Diploma and B.Sc. (Hons) in Nursing programmes are validated by our long-term partner, Oxford Brookes University, UK. The programmes were also approved by the Ministry of Higher Education(MOHE) and Malaysian Nursing Board. It was accredited in 2007 Lembaga Akreditasi Negara (now known as Malaysian Qualifications Agency);
Nilai UC nursing programme incorporates an overseas training stint with Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai, India (CHRI) granting us the opportunity to send our students for an overseas training stint. We also have close ties with many of the leading hospitals which provide our students with the necessary practical experience.
India will also greatly improve the marketability of our nurses Diploma graduated can option to further their studies at degree level. Upon graduation with a diploma and with two years of working experience, graduates can top-up their diploma to degree level in a two-year post-registration programme. Most of the students are sponsored by Medical centres and by Training Division of Ministry of Health, Malaysia.

The Nilai UC Experience
Unlike many fly-by-night colleges situated in shop houses, Nilai UC's campus is a lush, peaceful environment and equipped with all the necessary facilities. Nursing prorammes are available from hospitals and specialist nursing colleges. What sets Nilai UC apart is that we offer students a normal undergraduate experience in a campus where they will ineract with students from other fields of study. Students will be free to mix with undergraduates from all over the world and be part of a very active club and society scene on campus. Contrast with the hospital training centres and specialist nursing colleges where there are only nursing students. Our nursing department is also staffed by veteran lecturers and we have a lecturer to student ratio of 1:26 (exceeding the Nursing Boards requirements).

Industrial Training ExposureMLT
Students will get plenty of clinical training exposure at Gribbles Pathology - the country's largest pathology lab services provider. The nurses will get their exposure during their stints at the many industry private and public partner hospitals.

Extensive Lab and Equipment Facilities
Nilai UC had invested a huge amount in getting a set of High Fidelity Human Simulator models. This will allow students to conduct various experiments and maneuvers on a dummy patient. This is in addition to the three simulated wards and six nursing skills lab that are in place.

What Makes Our Faculty Special?
1)All our students deserve the best pastoral care. The following mechanisms have been put in place to give you that special care and attention.

a) Mentor mentee programmeVia the mentor-mentee system, each student is assigned a personal mentor. This means they will always have a senior academic staff to lend an ear and help out with any problems they may face. In addition, a team of academic counsellors are on hand to help and listen to students and their personal problems. We are very conscious of the fact that a student's emotional well-being is key to his or her academic performance. These trained counsellors not only listen but are able to spot when a student is affected by external factors.

b) A good staff lecturer student ratio The Nilai UC priority is quality not quantity. We keep lecturer student ratios at a level will allow our students to get one to one attention. The school lecturers understand that each student is unique and that each class requires its own unique solution. The lecturers at the faculty are committed to providing each student the unique exposure and experience he/she rightfully deserved.

c) CounsellingUniversity can be a challenging transition. The majority of you will be away from home for the first time. All students will face to some extent a feeling of being alone and perhaps a little lost. It is also a time where friendships and relationships develop, opening up a whole new world of empotions and anticipation. Our trained personal development counsellor wil help you through these challenges. Contrary to what people may think, you need not go to a counsellor only when you think you have a problem, the Nilai UC counselling centre is available for you to rest, relax and if you wish, chat with the counsellor.

2) We will guide you to actively participateIn the real world, few people can or are expected to solve a problem by themselves. The value of multiple inputs in reaching a better solution is widely recognised. But the sharing of ideas, the acceptance of other people’s ideas, and the learning from other approaches is not always a natural process.
Students must be encouraged to actively participate. Statements must be challenged by faculty and other students. Attack and defense of ideas, and the assimilation of other approaches are important parts of the learning process. The benefits gained from the participation learning approach are further enhanced by a multi-cultural student body.

3) You will be trained to: -
I) Think critically and creativelyThe papers you cover during your studies you will develop thinking skills and an enquiring mind. You will analyse problems and evaluate solutions use your judgment, and make decisions engage in reflective and creative thinking.

II) Conduct research and analysisYou will be capable of recognising when information is needed and will have the capacity to locate, evaluate and use this information effectively.

III) Communicate effectivelyAll employers want graduates who are able to communicate knowledge, ideas, recommendations and decisions effectively. You will develop sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make professional presentations develop coherent and justified arguments strengthen interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work in teams learn to effectively consult and negotiate use contemporary communication technologies effectively.

IV) Develop your personalityYou will be guided in your participation in a co-curriculum module which will help you possess an understanding of values and attitudes consistent with your role as a citizen and member of your professional community. You will have the capacity to identify and deal with ethical issues to interact effectively with and show sensitivity towards others or exercise leadership in local, national, global and professional communities to adapt to uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

4) You will be part of a bigger picture
The faculty is actively involved in the organisation of various activities that range from learning excursions, to conferences and workshops that discuss various issue related to the business world. These activities provide a platform for an interaction between the academia and the industry whilst facilitating an active and up-to-date learning experience for you.
Find our more about the Ribbon Project a COMMUNITYACTION initiative pioneered by Nilai UC in 2006 and now a nationwide project run in collaboration with our partners CIMB, The National Transplant Resource Centre.
